Paying the Toll for a Great View
The London Bridge has an amazing view, but it’s also not cheap for cars to drive on every day. I found this out as I took a Bolt and had an additional charge for a toll added called a congestion charge. The Congestion Charge is a £15 daily charge if you drive within the Congestion Charge zone from 7:00-18:00 Monday-Friday and 12:00-18:00 Sat-Sun including bank holidays. There is no charge between Christmas Day and New Year's Day bank holiday (inclusive), however, if your vehicle does not meet the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) standards, you must also pay the ULEZ charge.
Now back to the view of the bridge itself. It was stunning! People were everywhere and it was so busy. The roads were very wide, and the river was sparkling from the suns raise. Many boats filled the area with a beautiful scenery of tall buildings along the shores. I am proud to say that I was able to walk this bridge with friends and enjoy the epic scenery. Fun fact about the bridge is that it’s not even the original bridge.
I found out London Bridge is a historic crossing over the River Thames in London. The first London Bridge was actually built by the Romans as part of their road building program to connect the Southern and Kentish ports with Camulodunum. The most famous London Bridge was the medieval one, which stood for 600 years and was once dotted with buildings and waterwheels. The current London Bridge was completed in 1831 from a design by engineer John Rennie, making this the 5th bridge to be constructed (Roman Bridges, Early Medieval Bridges, Old London Bridges, New London Bridges, and Modern London Bridges).
