Overseas Commission and Law
Yesterday, our first day in Belgium, we visited the European commission where they implement European policy, regulation, and environmental targets. We listened to 2 speakers that worked within the commission. One worked in the agriculture sector, and the other was involved in promoting/writing law.
A few interesting thing that they discussed were the free movement of capital, real estate investment, and difference between parliament and the college. If you are in the European Union, you are not allowed to place any tariffs or export bans with another country within the union. This promotes further trade and it allows countries in Europe to prosper.
I also found it interesting that with the exception of Malta and Denmark, Union citizens have the ability to purchase real estate in any country that is also in the Union.
The last topic I wanted to touch on was the Danish Krone and the Euro. Denmark joined the European Union however they still use their own currency. This is smart and it allows Denmark to conduct in free trade within Europe while keeping their own form of currency.
