Art & Historic Literature @ the Jewish Museum
Today, we visited the Jewish Museum.
Anne Frank is known all over the world today due to her tragic life story. What is amazing to me is the emotional strength of her father, Otto, whom lived through the tragedy of Nazi Germany, losing his wife and daughter, however sharing their life with the whole world to see. In one interview during his lifetime, he stated that his daughter’s story had been published in 54 languages. An incredible feat and achievement in uniting to the world to learn from the life of young Anne Frank.
One painting that stood out to me, was
“The Elector of Hesse Entrusting Mayer Amschel Rothschild with his Treasure”
Produced in Frankfurt, 1859.
The scene emphasizes the Rothschild’s family reliability. They became one of the richest families in the history of the world. One of the two paintings, shows the elector of Hesse handing over his gold to Mayer Amschel Rothschild in the Judengasse before heading to exile to escape the French Army. In reality, the family safeguarded not the prince’s gold but his securities, and successfully invested his fortunes. Keeping their word and emphasizing peace in life was a lesson from the Rothschild father.
